The two sides of my brain feuding and frolicking through the past. Also the perfect length!!
Harry Dean Stanton reincarnated as a disciplined, romantic Japanese janitor. It embodies what we all crave but don’t have the courage to be. I’ll be dwelling on this film a long time.
Iconoclast “spaghetti” Western. Pacing is very slow, but contrasts well with building tension at the right moments. Realism in set and costume design set the bar for this genre, despite some poorly executed dubbing. Where this film truly shines is in its cinematography— the close ups, tracking shots, and quick zooms and cuts are the most compelling aspect of The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.
The best script-to-screen Shakespeare adaptation I’ve ever seen. Electric performances from Washington and McDormand were only eclipsed by the sheer sense of foreboding and eeriness that the Weird Sisters injected in the film. A must-see!
