Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I saw Close Encounters when it was first released and of course loved it. I was 15, and some of the scenes are indelibly etched in the heap of mashed potatoes I call my brain. The headlights behind the car that go up instead of around - with requisite screen flares. The obsessive sculpting of said mashed potatoes. But most of all, how the musical language exchange captured the majesty of what happens for me when I hear the perfect bass note hitting at the peak of a big crescendo - glass and debris flying in all directions.
