The second time around, I appreciated the artificial look of the Mexico City scenes so much more. The colors are exaggerated and the architecture flattens in the distance because the city is an enclosure that Lee constructs for himself - a stage for him to perform his alcohol and opiate-fueled song and dance night after night. First of all, TIFF's description of this movie as "addressing important issues of domestic violence and the challenges of terminal illness within China's healthcare system" is criminally inaccurate 😡😡

The film quickly sheds the weight of these topics to become a wholehearted exploration of how we can make the most of our lives knowing that things might change at any moment. While this sounds really cheesy, the characters and script always felt real and authentic.

    Also features some…
