The Trial 1962
Orson Welles's proto-Eraserhead fucking nightmare. Easily his greatest aesthetic achievement (gun to my head, he may be right that it's his best movie period) but I really can't say enough good things about Anthony Perkins, who plays this ultra twitchy, sweaty role like he's full of bees.

The Straight Story 1999
Oh this absolutely floored me. A towering, beautiful movie. But do not be fooled by the idea that this isn't Lynchian at all - there's no creeping dread or inexplicable the-fuck-was-that moment, but it does have an enormous heart and plenty of Lynch eccentricities, though those are less exaggerated than usual. One of his best.
