  Had the pleasure of seeing this again on an IMAX screen. Certainly hasn't lost any of its power. I do think there is a little bit of first time filmmaker figuring himself out here but that honestly works within the context of the film. Good film.

  I am struggling to reconcile my feelings on this new space epic from director Ridley Scott. What we have in The Martian is a competently filmed and acted sci-fi flick. What we do not have is a film that attempts to push any boundaries, or challenge any preconceived notions of what the best of the genre has to offer.   Holy shit.

  I don't know if I've felt this deeply about a movie in a long time. Chalk this one up as a classic film that completely and utterly lives up to the hype. Here are some random thoughts. It's late and I'm tired.

  The cinematography is breathtaking.

  The art direction is incredible.

  The acting is phenomenal.

  The way that David Lean meticulously frames each shot is incredibly beautiful.
