Pros: fantastic scenery and sound, incredible performance by Zoe Ziegler.
I found the achingly slow pace and long camera shots, while effective in imparting the mood of a depressed 11 year old girl during a long hot summer, tedious. It didn't grab me emotionally, other than feeling empathy for Lacy's unhappy life and irritation at Janet being so self-absorbed.

An important and moving film about the incredibly courageous women who served in the 6888th battalion. The movie was a bit schmaltzy and cliche at times, but well worth watching to learn about this history. Loved the real life clips at the end.

Beautiful and inspirational film about finding humanity and self-realization in the most soul-crushing environment (although one critique is that the film didn't really depict how horrible prison really is). Fabulous performances by Colman (give the man the Oscar!) and the actors from the prison program who inspired the film (give them more roles!). Terrific chemistry between Domingo and Maclin.

The 2024 documentary "Daughters" is a wonderful film with similar subject matter.

    Abolish mass incarceration!

Fabulous film. Provocative and powerful in many ways. Mikey Madison absolutely shines, one of the best performances I've seen in a long time.

Endings are tricky business. Not sure I loved this one - I would have liked it to be more empowering to Ani - but I like how it leaves it to the viewer's interpretation.
