A strange mix of humour and sadness, but I suppose that's what life is! The movie does a good job of getting you invested in the characters, more so than your typical monster movie, I would say. And its message about who the real monster/virus is is quite clear. I would love to have been present for discussions on the English title "The Host" (it does foreshadow "Parasite" nicely).
Gorgeous. Painful, funny, moving, discomforting, tender, frustrating. The characters and relationships were complex, and it all felt very grounded in reality. A buddy movie, a quest, a lesson on history, generational trauma, and identity all wrapped into one. And done in 90 minutes - the beauty of concision.
Now I want to see what else Jesse Eisenberg has written! Kieran Culkin deserves the Oscar nomination for best supporting actor, but given their characters' dynamic in the movie, the fact that Eisenberg didn't get one for best actor seems almost like a continuation of the story! Art and life and all that jazz.
