Fox and His Friends 1975
This movie slowbuilt tension really well. I found the 70s costuming mesmerizing. But there were a lot of scenes where I couldn't connect with the logic or emotions of the main character. It felt some of the dramatic irony only could exist because of a level of cluelessness I personally found unbelievable.

A meta thriller: you watching a man, through a screen, who, through a camera lens, watches women who, in a mirror, watch themselves be murdered. It's a film of the twisted horror of the male gaze and all its layers, working on a literal and symbolic level in tandem .

I feel so conflicted about this film. It did so many things well - the acting is amazing, it weaves multiple narratives well, and it's clearly dedicated to the idea of historical accuracy. And, above all, it elicits a very strong reaction, regardless of your point of view. I like that, while it's a film about the creation of a weapon, the viewpoint is a warning about the destruction that comes from creating something you don't understand.
