  Alfonso Cuarón and Emmanuel Lubezki - utter magic together. I honestly lack the vocabulary to describe how it feels to witness the camera work beyond lamely saying the cinematography is incredible. But there were moments that made my jaw drop, not because of what’s happening in the movie, but because of how they capture and portray it. Droplets of blood on the camera lens, frantic but steady running behind the protagonists, crouching down with them, etc. I think this is…

  Beautiful. A writer I follow once said “I think things feel too hard to untangle. so sometimes people resign from trying. that’s all anything is” - that’s what this movie made me think of. Something dark is happening and nobody knows what to do about it, so no one really does anything. It’s easier for everyone to pretend that nothing weird is happening and just be nice and unobtrusive about it all.
