Rarely does one come across a film that, while absurd in its presentation and schematically makes little to no sense, leaves such an impression that one cannot help but love it. A love as indescribable and bizarre as the two main characters Barry and Lena express to one another. “Punch-Drunk Love” unfolds as an odd romance, formed from the depths of loneliness, bordering on the obsessive and compulsive, and yet is executed beautifully. The dialogue is somewhat disconnected but the bare-bones acting, complimentary colored cinematography, and Jon Brion's entrancing score tranquilize those frustrations and exemplifies a film very much rooted in emotion.
