Incredibly heartbreaking and tense.
CW: multiple replays of a person shot and killed.
I mostly enjoyed this film. With an almost 4 hour runtime, it moved quickly and Adrian Brody is always amazing.
That said, there were some weird plot holes that could have been avoided or at least explained…like when Erzabet confronted Van Buren, how was she suddenly able to walk after almost overdosing on heroin? Why did Maggie make a comment about how she can finally meet her fiancée—who suddenly disappears from the scene and isn’t there when the other business men bounce?
“You light up a room, then shit all over it.”
This was cringy and hard to watch at times but overall a beautiful, compelling story about the messiness of two cousins on a pilgrimage to their deceased grandmother’s home in Poland.
Kieran Culkin absolutely nailed it. He deserves every nomination he gets for this role.
