The Substance 2024
Unfortunately I didn’t feel anything deeper than just pure shock. I don’t mind gore and horror (and the gore definitely delivered). However, for me, horror/gore needs to be coupled with a gripping plot that makes an audience get lost in the story feeling both horrified but excited to see what happens next. Instead, I felt aware I was watching a film the entire time. As well as being aware that it was attempting to make a statement through shock factor instead of trying to create an emotional connection to the characters and audience. So due to that, I was a bit disappointed.
