Paddington in Peru 2024

Still magical, but I must subtract a few points for 1. New mom actress, I miss Sally Hawkins 2. Not a single mention of the phrase “Darkest Peru” and 3. Discontinuation of the sexy men in drag bit.
Love Olivia Colman’s character in this and so glad we still got a bit of Hugh Grant at the end!

Barbie 2023
I really did not want to give it to the big box corporation of Mattel, but I can’t not.
The musical numbers. The narration. Push by Matchbox Twenty. Michael Cera killing someone. The concept of weird Barbie bc I defff mutilated all of my Barbies and had them in constant splits. Margot Robbie being perfect. Will Ferrell being completely unnecessary. The beautiful complexity of mother-daughter relationships. The reminder of how much I love being a woman, no matter how hard life gets. And that Billie Eilish song!
…sublime!

The Brutalist 2024
*in Stefon voice* This film has everything. Seriously, there’s a lot going on.
I’m just amazed that the 3.5 hours managed to be completely captivating. Stunningly shot and beautifully acted (an Oscar for Adrien plz). However, the second half kinda lost me with trying to do too much. I can already tell it’s the first half that will continue to stick with me, especially in the way it forced me to think about my own Jewish American identity.
I can’t see myself wanting to watch this again, but I’m very glad I saw it.
