Maybe a good double (triple?) bill with The Brutalist, on the surface A Real Pain is a simple Type A/Type B comedy drama but its more complex subtleties really make this a great watch.
Culkin is great doing what everyone knows he’s great at, and Eisenberg’s classic neurotic normie persona much the same - though as the film goes on we see more of what I felt Benji lacked finally come to the surface in the closing moments.

On my second viewing I was a lot more critical, and expected I’d find the first half even better and the second half not as great - especially being prepared for what was to come.
First half is amazing and no complaints, second half is an unsubtle destruction of it and everything else, and the final stretch from Carrara through to the end of the epilogue is a sledgehammer smashing the shit out of you.
