There is never a point where director Ben Heisenberg spoon-feeds why Johann is a skilled, tour-de-force runner, who just also happens to get a thrill out of bank heisting. This director doesn't lecture an audience by spouting his opinions of the true events that transpired. THE ROBBER is simply asking the viewer to address their own weird addictions, and their forced dependencies.
