Multiple themes abound in Bong Joon-Ho's follow up to Parasite. Where the latter was laser focused on its takedown of the rich under the evils of capitalism, Mickey 17 tackles that and much more, including death, colonialism, power structures, and human sacrifice. Unfortunately, a film this packed with ideas fails to fully engage with any of them and when it hits upon something interesting, has to quickly move to the next idea lest the film exceed it's already bloated runtime…

Strong performances and quality production value can't quite save this milquetoast exploration of Dylan's early days. Nic Cage is delightfully Cage-like and the movie is delightfully weird, but it suffers pacing issues as a result of some bad plotting. It oddly became less interesting it went on, finishing with a less than dazzling climax. A+ sets and costumes though
