I haven’t reviewed any movies in awhile but this one warrants a mention. I was told to not look up anything regarding this film and to “go in blind”.
Before the opening credits role we are told this movie will be shown in 6 chapters. Fair enough, but when it starts with chapter 3 you know this is going to be a fun ride. I’m not going into any plot points but I will say, just when you think you have this movie figured out…you don’t. It has a Tarantinoesque vibe to it. Check it out.
“The Golden Age of Youth Cinema” is a perfect summation of 80’s teen movies. I was extremely lucky to have grown up during this time. I strongly encourage you to watch this new documentary on Hulu. There are numerous interviews that Andrew McCarthy conducts throughout and you’ll get a better understanding of what the “Brat Pack” label actually meant to them personally. I was disappointed that Judd Nelson and Molly Ringwald did not participate even though McCarthy did try numerous times to track them down. It’s a good watch if 80’s teen movies were your thing.
I’m a big fan of the “Scream” franchise and felt I had to see this new one on opening night to avoid any potential spoilers I might read on social media. The opening scene was done in typical “Scream” fashion…but with a twist. I enjoyed this new installment very much but it definitely had its flaws. “Oppenheimer” is a must see if you are a history buff(or specifically a WWII buff). Even if you are not either of these, I strongly suggest you see it. The 3 hour running time was, I admit, a tad long but if you’re going to do a film on one of the most important men in world history, I understand why it was so lengthy.
