    Twin Peaks: The Return

    ★★★★½

Twin Peaks: The Return picks up 25 years after the events of season 2. Between David Lynch directing all 18 episodes in his 70’s, to many cast members reprising their iconic roles, this project is an unprecedented achievement. We’ve never seen anything like it on television and probably never will again.

While I can’t say I’m fully satisfied with how the story “concludes,” I’m certainly grateful it exists. If you’re expecting all of the character arcs and loose ends to…

    Death of a Unicorn

    ★★★

Death of a Unicorn is a fun time if you’re looking for a silly horror/comedy that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Lots of gnarly kills that could’ve been even better had they opted for practical effects rather than distractingly bad CGI. It works for the trippy, colorful scenes, but not so much the gore and unicorns. Themes of exploitation, animal cruelty, pharmaceutical company practices, and “eat the rich” aren’t explored in any original or meaningful way, so don’t expect something deep. Will Poulter is the MVP.

Visually, it’s hideous and poorly edited, with multiple scenes resembling “auto motion smoothing” television settings. Don’t even get me started on those action sequences…

    ★★★

Despite its occasional cheesy (yet endearing) delivery, The School for Good and Evil is more enjoyable than expected, full of fantasy, comedy, neat costumes, and a nice message regarding human complexity.
