I know this will be an unpopular opinion but what’s most frustrating about this is just how close it gets before missing the mark. Tonally and atmospherically, it sets itself up as a nihilistic nightmare that ultimately explodes into something so outrageous and contrived that it sours its own potential. At its best moments, it feels like it could be a masterpiece, which makes its resolution all the more unsatisfying for me.
