    A Creature Was Stirring

    ★★

Indie-horror flick with little more substance than usual and a decent visual hook. Not sure where I read it, but “LED Argento”  sounded promising… doesn’t totally pay off but at least it is usually cool to look at.

But overall things don’t totally work… I’m still confused by exactly what happened, but wasn’t invested enough to go back later and sort it out. Titular creature design was cool, although I think a  “less is more” approach may have worked in their favor.

    Don't Look at the Demon

    ★½

Moments here and there worked really well (some of the seance/possession stuff), but when it tries to get dark it ends up being more silly… the tone at the end just doesn’t land.

Also, I may have been partially distracted by beer/a cat, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen more intense case of “just leave the damn house” - it’s never explained why they don’t. Seems like that would
    have really helped matters.

But "Country at Heart" (aka "Love Song") has believable chemistry from the likeable leads, and overall it's just "nice."

The most blatantly Hallmark thing about it (and honestly my favorite thing about Hallmark…

    Hometown Hero

Bland, but inoffensive. Although the lack of chemistry between the two leads makes you wonder if it could have used a montage or something of the two of them - you know, dating or having fun or whatever. But I guess people have to fall in love in these things. Oh, and the title "Hometown Hero" doesn't really make sense. Should have saved that for a movie about a military vet, not an animal vet. Plus, maybe the vet would…
