The scenes in the trenches are well done. So are the music, acting and camera. Apart from that the movie lacks a red lining in the plot and, worst of all, a connection to the book. The storylines taken from Remarques masterpiece (maybe 3) are also well executed, but are not enough to safe the movie. The ending in particular is, for a lack of better words, stupid. And that is a pity.
