Too many inconveniences which break the whole suspense and its most intense moments … Instead it proposes indirectly some laughs (which I don’t know if many of them were on purpose).
Moreover, movie could be easily shorter if it wasn’t for the many live songs present in it .
Slightly props for a change of pace in the middle… But this part is also surrounded by inconsistencies .
The monologues may feel a bit tiring ,though they also present a story creative enough to be built on its concepts … Philosophical, political , emotional …
Yet, the promise of these ideas , the expectation of focusing in a main one, comes to a territory that feels too familiar for this amazing director.
I like the simplicity , the claustrophobic feeling of the sets to present the many themes in the beginning , maybe also in the middle part…
Intense, brutal and from time to time very grotesque!
If you already saw a Dracula movie (even the old Nosferatu) , you’ll probably know the bits of the story…
But at the same time, it expands in some ways its fantasy + also elevates characters to a level which I don’t remember seeing in other adaptations.
As expected from this director too, technical aspects , especially soundtrack and art direction/design , are fantastic !
And what an amazing cast by the way, especially Lily Rose-Depp!
I think it is my favorite from Eggers’s cinematography ❤️
