  Only reason it surpasses the 4 star mark is the masterful cinematography and performances from the actors. Maybe I’m stupid but I struggle to understand what the movie is trying to say. Is it a dig at brutalism or does it unironically think brutalism is good? Also, some themes, like the formation of the State of Israel and how that intersects with Jewish identity, were underdeveloped. With a runtime of three hours and a half, there’s really no excuse to leave things half baked. Still, it was a very good film.
