The first film by Paul Thomas Anderson is a good crime/character study that lacks the scope of Boogie Nights but still has nice intimacy amongst the main characters. I can see PTA's early style start to emerge, including him using a hand-held camera and it sweeping around.
Fairly decent compilation films that broadly cover the basic plot points and explosive moments of both OVAs. Unfortunately, because of time, many aspects of each story have to be trimmed, leaving them both weaker. In my opinion, you should just watch the OVAs.
Watched the 3.0+1.01 version in a normal theater.
