    Death of a Unicorn

    ★★★

As a directorial debut, Death of a Unicorn is a decent, if uneven, dark comedy. The script and humour are sometimes clunky, and the story unfolds predictably, adding yet another entry to the oversaturated "eat the rich" satire that has so far dominated 2025’s media-sphere. The real highlight is Jenna Ortega, who delivers a standout performance and easily outshines Paul Rudd. In the end, this is another case where the film’s concept is more interesting than its execution—but if nothing else, it proves there’s room for more unicorn-centric storytelling.

    Mickey 17

    ★★½

A tonal mess of a movie that sidesteps its most intriguing themes—identity, duality, and existence—in favour of the Big Theme™ of the moment: Class Disparity. Or was it Colonization? No… Animal Welfare. Fascism? Ah, whatever—just throw it all in.

For fans of Okja, Poor Things, Starship Troopers, and Monty Python who’ve been waiting for a film that blends uncomfortable animal torture-porn, cartoonish caricatures, cheesy plotlines, and absurdist, esoteric humor into one chaotic sci-fi casserole—this is the one!

(Also, seriously, more Robert Pattinson was needed.)

    Thank You for Smoking

The film suffers from a case of "both-sides-ism," as if neutrality in the face of corporate malfeasance is a virtue, and the entrenched misogyny and self-congratulatory tone create a cinematic experience akin…

    ★★

I really don't like hypocrites. If you want to make a Barbie movie about gender equality, by all means, please do. But this movie wasn't about equality. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. All I know is that it really rubs me the wrong way when a movie calls out the harms of sexism and then goes and includes sexist tropes - it comes across as grossly ignorant at best, and intentionally malicious at worst.

    Some of these dated cliches…
