Winchester '73 1950
What a better way to explore the themes of the west and everything it represents than following a rifle as it exchanges hands through various interconnecting vignettes and stories. A western about justice and masculinity’s pecking order as overlapping themes. Some great action sequences too.

RIP Wings Hauser
Top tier 80s exploitation filmmaking. Gritty, violent, and a product of its time. Wings Hauser is unhinged in this as the psychotic pimp Ramrod. Such a great performance. He also sings on the opening song. Great time capsule of LA and essential viewing for anyone interested in grind-house/exploitation films. As wild as this is I feel like the craziest bit of trivia is the cinematography was done by John Alcott who worked with Kubrick on The Shinning, clockwork orange, and Barry Lyndon.

The Town 2010
Takes the formula of Heat and transplants it from LA to Boston. It’s easy to call it a Heat rip-off, but it feels more in line of what De Palma did with Hitchcock - acknowledging their accomplishments transcended the standards of filmmaking at the time to make their own winning formula that can be emulated with successful results. It’s an accomplishment for Affleck, but most importantly it’s a testament to the heist films that influenced this movie.
