  I suppose it's hard to watch a 3 hour black and white Russian film and not compare it to Tarkovsky. It's even harder when the film is based on a book written by the Strugatsky brothers, authors of "Roadside Picnic" which was the basis for Tarkovsky's masterpiece "Stalker."
