Director James Marigold does not impose himself into this film whatsoever, and that is to its strength. Marigold, whose last biopic, "Walk the Line" which saw Joaquin Pheonix wear the shoes of Johnny Cash in an Oscar Winning performance - shares a very similar formula to "A Complete Unknown"; a complete focus on what makes these two artists great.
