A moving story that touches tearjerking themes like intergenerational love, familial duties, and grief, without being gratuitous. Usha Seamkhum‘s performance of Amah is absolutely brilliant.
Sex in poor things:
- pleasure (masturbation + the ship)
- brothel: means of production; bella discovers violence (discovers “brutal sex”); educating the next generation
- feels hollow from all the sex at brothel; bella grew up”tired” of it -> no longer integral to her growth?
- last sex scene w lesbian partner; she does not have sex w max and calls that rlsp “practical romance”

Hate that so much of this “biography” is fictionalized but the acting is 10/10. Would have enjoyed it more if it were about some random person and not Emily Bronte. It just felt like they were projecting Wuthering Heights onto Emily Bronte’s life, when she clearly was just a genius capable of imagining a great story.
The turning point of the main protagonists is not explained very well. Female characters are mainly just plot devices and not fleshed out well
