Definitely wasn’t expecting an “orgasmic gore opera” to have so little action. Half of this is people on wild goose chases looking for each other, a quarter of it is characters torturing each other and the rest of it is violence against women. I guess I might’ve liked this more in my edgy middle school days, but this was one of those movies that I felt like I was asking myself “ok but why” through most of the runtime.

Pretty awesome thriller. Rather than being a detective “whodunnit” film, this is a detectives journey to and through hell. Seeking to escape the torment of his past life, he willingly crawls right back and ends up in the belly of the beast. Bunch of crazy turns but what I love is when what should be the big twist/reveal is obvious from the start, and it’s the minutia that makes you go crazy.

Also Hidetoshi Nishijima is fucking amazing. Drive My Car is still my favorite cinematic experience I’ve ever had, in no small part because of him. His subtlety and his eyes are unmatched

Probably the worst of his Netflix stand ups. Not as personal as a lot them, which he’s used to humanize himself to audiences, since his disappearance from public view turned him into an almost mythical person. Some jokes land, some I couldn’t even tell were jokes. I also think this is an issue with the release model of these, as the Chris Rock bit ate way too much time up for something that occurred TWO YEARS AGO. I get they're…

This is gripping from beginning to end. A raw story of prodigies, overachievers and underachievers. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before, telling a simple story but letting music carry the emotional baggage. By the end you don’t just understand each of the JASS boys, you feel them and their desires, goals and passions.

Blue Giant shares a ton of similarities with La La Land. It follows young artists: one of which moved to the big city trying to make it…
