  Don’t bother thinking about peasants, samurai, or bandits anymore. There’s no one truly great in this world, nor is there anyone insignificant. Even if your heart was pierced with a thousand tiny holes in the last battle, even if you’ve resolved to lock it away, sealing off love for the next thousand years, when you meet that lowly figure begging for millet, tail wagging behind you, you’ll still find yourself helplessly drawn into yet another self-destructive war. 

  That’s humanity—foolish and forgetful.

  Time is such a shame.
