Genuinely… I had noooo idea what to expect from this one but, you know what? What an honestly fun time. The characters and their relationships really grew on me. Story wise, I thought all the through lines were subtle and yet also clear and tied off nicely by the end. Quirky, fun, grand ol time.

No, the fact that it had musical elements did not bother me. Of course Lady Gaga blew Joaquin Phoenix (singing wise) out of the water… but that’s because she’s Lady Gaga and the purpose of those scenes wasn’t to show Joaquin’s pipes. *Sigh*
Yeah… the first one had an ironic sense of justice, twisted and disturbing, but it was present… this one… this one just says, “You’re born, life sucks, and then you die.” Not sure I understood the purpose of this sequel.

UGH. Sooo great to see Will Smith in a historical role again. Almost forgot just how wonderful of an actor he is. And I loved how conversational the whole film felt. Every scene between every actor felt engaging and real. Aunjanue Ellis, Jon Bernthal, and Tony Goldwyn were true pleasures to watch.
