I agree with many of the other reviews here. This should be considered a Taiwan New Wave masterpiece along the likes of "A Brighter Summer Day", "City of Sadness", and "A Borrowed Life". It is gorgeously shot. The grass and trees are so fresh. The drab colored clothing of the townspeople is expertly contrasted with the vibrant colors inside the brothel from the lamps, umbrellas, and the clothing of the prostitutes. Enemy 2013
Denis Villeneuve's bleak depiction of the cityscape really makes me want to see him direct a J.G. Ballard adaption like Concrete Island, Millennium People, or Low Flying Aircraft. Cronenberg's Crash was good, Wheatley's High-Rise was acceptable but left more to be desired. A director like Villeneuve could really bring a Ballard story to life and make it shine.
