The Crying Game 1992
Consider this a belated St. Patrick’s Day watch. All my life, I’ve known about the twist and it’s hilarious how well telegraphed throughout the movie it is but wild to consider how a 90s audience reacted to it versus how it would be treated today. Maybe, I’m dumb but the film was more woke about it than I had expected. Lots of fun twists and turns in this thriller. I kinda don’t buy the friendship formed between Stephen Rea and Forrest Whitaker’s characters. About as convincing as Whitaker’s accent.

No Other Land 2024
The most damning thing about this documentary is the IDF comes across as ~slightly~ less barbaric than they do in their own TikTok videos. Not to mention that all of the heinous acts being depicted happened before October 7th. The shot of occupational forces standing outside the door frame of Palestinian school is the most haunting shot of 2024.

Mickey 17 2025
Definitely on the bottom end of Bong’s English language films. Mixed bag comedically with a very committed Robert Pattinson and a deeply miscast Mark Ruffalo. It feels like Bong is aiming for a Starship Troopers political satire but the message is unfocused and the third act being inert.
