  The identity crisis of Joker, between slapstick superhero tropes and visceral realism results in an incredibly messy handling of highly sensitive subjective matter.

  Whereas I can and do value shock content, here the impact is painfully sad. I don’t know what ribbon Todd Phillips thinks he is wearing but his film comes across as a selfish display of bravado, and it doesn’t suit him.

  I hate it when everyone's voice is the same. No, hate isn’t the word, there isn’t really one. Well, there is, but it doesn't always hit the spot, not like ‘Anomalisa’. This film penetrates in an infinitely flat, sapping way, just the way I believe Kaufman intended, and what a great achievement that is.
