It a great shame that the UK release of the holdovers was delayed from pre Christmas to jan/feb 2024 - the film feels like a leftover decoration from Christmas, and it may explain the lacklustre box office performance for a film that would have drawn an enthusiastic audience looking for some sentimentality in the run up to the festive period.

Two days after seeing Zone of interest the imagery and soundscape of the film are still front of mind in my awareness. The film succeeds in portraying a normalised perspective of a nazi concentration camp commandant and his family. Aside perhaps from White Ribbon, I cannot recall another film that has taken on this challenge, not only in the narrative but also in the observational cinematography- largely using wide static camera images of day to day family life.
