In thinking about this movie alongside all 2024 movies, I discovered I would rather re-watch Descendants: The Rise of Red than put myself through this again.

Only Lynch could make something so heartfelt and human. He had an innate understanding of human life, and that’s reflected through this absolute master-work. Some people think the dark, surreal, nightmarish elements that characterize the style that’s been dubbed “Lynchian,” pose him as a cynic or as someone who tries to point out the darkness of life. That couldn’t be more incorrect. This film goes above and beyond in proving that David Lynch was one of the most empathetic and emotionally in-tune directors to ever live.

Even when you know what’s gonna happen; even if you’re looking and looking, Nolan maximizes the potential of the medium itself to pull off one of the greatest tricks imaginable. I think his most masterful film. Guy is a true cinematic magician.
