I’m not much charmed by Wes Anderson movies the way I was when I was younger. My favourite for a long time was The Darjeeling Limited, but after becoming a dad, this one is tops. RIP Gene.

Well I wasn’t expecting to get a deeply unsettling (and empathetic) sensory explanation of what it feels like to be a young woman coming into herself as prying, salaciously covetous male eyes pore over every inch of your body and the hellish nightmare of fears and neuroses that would develop as a result of it …

This film is a powerhouse. It’s been 2 hours since I watched it and it’s still stuck in my head.…

The Long Goodbye 1973
The behind the scenes doc called the main character “Rip Van Marlowe” and it’s dead accurate. The opening scene is a gem, but it all kind of resolves a bit too tidily for my taste. The final scene comes out of nowhere, betraying not only the character but the whole film to that point.
