  Is this even real? I seem to be the only one on Letterboxd to have ever seen it (and you need to type the title with "$" instead of "S" to even find it). When I sort every film I've seen by popularity, this comes dead last behind that Punjabi Hitler musical I watched last year. Searching Wikipedia for this film yields no results. Click on its Rotten Tomatoes page, and you get a 404 Error. Maybe Fallon's lawyers are…

  The Skin of the South 1952

  I know it's a bit reductive to tie everything Honda touched back to tokusatsu, but it really is remarkable how much of Godzilla's DNA is present in these early works. The push and pull of the mythic and scientific; the indomitability of nature; the beautiful frailty of human interaction -- these topics clearly weighed on Honda's mind long before monsters entered the equation.

  Anyway, as I said below there's currently a Patreon set up for the purpose of subtitling Honda's non-sci-fi work, along with other films that have yet to surface outside Japan. If this is your thing, consider contributing. These movies are important!
