bottomline, America—the foreign source of monsters, misinformation, and manipulation.

really interesting how this uses the original godzilla blueprint but it still feels original enough to evidently inspire alien/monster movies since (cloverfield, a quiet place, kong)

The early comparisons as the modern godfather are hyperbole but the "second half wasn't as good" discourse is a bit overblown. It is a great, grand depiction of the self-aggrandizement of American culture. The mythological embrace of immigrant perseverance and their works is mostly recognized only when applauded by many. Only when the art has survived its journey, let alone the artist. It's all about survival. I guess it is always the destination, never the journey.

I commend Nicole Kidman for commemorating the 25th anniversary of Eyes Wide Shut with this silly but a bit more mature sibling of fifty shades.

Let the record show again, watching this alone out of boredom during the afternoon with curious middle aged couples + giggly teens reached a peak of awkwardness I’d never experienced in a theater.
