  This is perhaps the most flawed masterpiece ever made. The plot has so many holes, Pacino is in a different movie entirely (something akin to live action Looney Tunes), Mann’s writing is still, as always, overcooked and melodramatic. But goddamn it this film is incredible to watch. The technical details are flawless from the sound mixing to the color grading, the direction and editing are sharp and minimal, and De Niro is lights-out good. Hard to not love it.

  An interesting concept ultimately weighed down by a hopeless attempt to bring some sense of hope in the Trump age. The institutional solution being the exact way the problem started is almost comical given the political state things are in. Hopefully this ages better, but I doubt it.

  Movie is formulaic but planes are cool, Washington is cool, Cheadle is cool, Goodman is cool, Court movies are cool, Rolling Stones are cool, Bill Withers is cool. So it’s a cool movie.
