Come for the stunning cinematography and chunky character performances (Cumberbatch being a capital C and Dunst descending from heaven to the reflect the coping mechanisms of mere mortals). Stay for the delicious writing and direction: absolutely gripping and engaging. Really loved this film.

Ariel 1988
A raw and brilliant 80s Finnish black comedy about just how hard it can be to live in the system. This is apparently one of the director’s films in the ‘proletariat’ trilogy and certainly struck a chord with this ol’ prole.
The performances are wonderful - the Nick Cave style lead is pure class. The juxtaposition of the Cadillac in the unforgiving Northern landscape proves to be more albatross than eagle. Can’t wait to delve further into Kaurusmaki’s work.
