one of my all time, blue ribbon favorite films. tonight i’d like to give an ode to the film’s seventh character, the Bus: beautiful ‘78 bay window. she represents the condition of the family: bankrupt, broken, dependent. she can’t start on her own, she depends on others. and, though riddled with problems, she keeps going.

The Brutalist 2024
this didn’t land for me. there are enough people who felt the story and performances earned its lengthy runtime but I am not one of them. my experience was boredom interspersed with genuinely hard-to-watch moments, not in a way that challenged me as a viewer, but a way that truly made me recoil with how gratuitous and unnecessary they were to the overall story.
