  The Substance

  One of the smartest horror films I’ve ever seen. It constantly critiques the beauty industry and Hollywood itself, highlighting how the concept of fame we’ve constructed in our society is extremely empty and problematic. The film also addresses themes like self-esteem, aging, and the weight that age carries in the entertainment world. Beyond being a slap in the face to the entire entertainment industry, it’s also a horror film, and in this aspect, it shines even more—disturbing in just the right way, with blood baths and an excellent soundtrack that makes everything even more bizarre.
