One time when I was probably 12 years old I catched this on TV with my mom, and it just couldn't leave my head for quite some time, it was ridiculous but also so intriguing and incredibly shot. Years later, I managed to watch it from the begining and it's just so entertaining and satirical, the way Spielberg created tension, how he could managed to do this kind of "monster/road movie" with only a car and a truck, while reflecting on toxic masculinity, anger issues and conflict itself. I really like this movie.

The whole point of this movie is to make an apology for Tsarism, and I find that quite disturbing. Taking so many historical liberties in a children's animation is strange in almost every context, and with the lightness with which a terrible regime is shown. Incredible cinematography and use natural lightning, the landscapes were beautiful, every performance was great, and the direction was also really great.

The story is raw, violent and reminded me a bit of "The Lord of the Flies" and movies with stories of child soldiers in dramas like "Blood Diamond", and more detailed in the brutal and dehumanizing treatment of guerrillas like "Incendies".

It's striking and it felt personal and big at the same time.
