    Most filmmakers making a thriller try to have their audience glued to the very edge of their seats. Nithilan Saminathan's Maharaja, however, is scary because, perhaps ironically or by design, it wants you to look away.

    There are enough limbs and heads flying around on-screen to make the average viewer gag. But beyond the body horror, the true tragedy at the centre of the film is the horror of realisation.
