While perhaps heavy-handed at times, Atonement is a well crafted and often emotionally engaging film. The film's standout moments come by way of Seamus McGarvey's stellar cinematography, paired with Wright's evident comfort in his ability to direct. The opening in particular strives to establish likeable characters, living within a tangible environment allowing the more emotionally impactful moments to land. Sadly, I found myself losing some interest around the end beginning of the third act, as scenes of wartime Britain seem cliche in a world saturated with World War 2 drama. The ending however, Is bitter-sweet enough to redeem the film. A recommended watch.

Dead or Alive 1999
A medley of tonal shifts and bat-shit balls to the wall insanity. But hey, it’s not too bad.

The Great Muppet Caper 1981
With some paper sharp self-referential humour, this muppets film has enough laughs to keep the paper thin plot going.
