What if Brian De Palma actually has more in common with David Lynch than he does with Hitchcock?

Django Unchained 2012
Roger Ebert wrote, “I'm not sure that such a thing as a perfect film exists, and I doubt if a film can be both great and perfect, since in order to be truly great a filmmaker has to try things he's not sure about and go places where he doesn't know the way."
I completely agree with him and it makes me feel like a fuddy-duddy to dock a full star for the third act, but you could remove it…

The Conversation 1974
My favourite 70s paranoia thriller and one of the great cinematic marriages of form and content. It’s just amazing how the movie first evokes the feeling of peeping into someone else’s life from the outside (along with Harry) and then gradually makes you feel like you’re trapped inside Harry’s subconscious, looking out. Hadn’t seen it for a while but wow wow wow.
