Blue Velvet was my first exposure to David Lynch.

I remember finding a still online of Kyle MacLachlan picking up an ear in a grassy field and thinking I needed to see this film for some reason.

I’m so glad I found Lynch when I did. I was in high school, and the world of film felt so vast and overwhelming to me; it often still does. Lynch stood out from the herd, though, and through his work, he guided…

It's an interesting film with tremendous performances, though there is a moment midway through that feels like a logical leap. I personally can't seem to get past it, but I don't know; perhaps a rewatch will change my mind.

Regarding what I liked, Guy’s subtle reactions to Oswald’s carefree attitude are incredibly nuanced and feel extremely authentic. It’s genuinely heartbreaking to watch someone realize that they’ve been living under self-imposed constraints that were never truly there. I was pleasantly surprised by Stan’s performance, he really shows a depth I didn’t expect from him.

With Don't Look Up, I find that it's less about trying to spread a specific message and more concerned with showing a somewhat realistic depiction of what movies…

the film does a great job at showing the mentality of soldiers in a war zone but focuses too much on the regrets of SPC Winfield
