I'm pretty sure I'm not the target audience for this film, and the only reason i saw it was because I got invited to a screening, so I kinda went cuz it was a free movie. But full disclosure I wasn't the only one laughing in the theater. And don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie. But I suppose horror really isn't my thing, so I found myself cracking up over it's gruesomeness, since from my pov it was just so over-the-top i just couldn't take it seriously.
But again i liked it, but i guess for the wrong reasons?
A perfect slow burn, that really delivers something so real, and complicated that I'm left haunted. Great score and cinematography to boot.
Had no idea what this was about. I guess I've heard of Leonard Bernestien. But never saw West Side story nor was I consciuosly familiar with his music.
So it was a real treat to not only see this visual delight of a film but it was wonderful to be educated on this prolific man's life.
I kept thinking about Kevin Klines, film Delovely, at a high level very similar story arcs, but this was more elevated. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it.
The movie was a luscious visual delight. And Emma, "Bella" was like a frankenstein Forrest Gump, traveling through that world of beauty and convention lost and defiant.
In the hands of the right editor this could have been great, but it drowned in its point. And the sound/score has its brief moments of being interestingly dramatic but ultimately, like the movie just went on for too long.
Would totally watch again if theres ever a non-director cut.
